Blake lettered in football, basketball and track from 1946 through 1951. Bill excelled in all athletic areas, but at Northland, football was his "first love." Playing right tackle, he was captain of both the 1949 and 1950 football teams. A big man, Bill was quick, fast and a hard hitter. His play was always spirited and always clean. He excelled because he would not allow himself to be out-performed. At Northland, he was an excellent student and served as an officer of his class, his fraternity, and the N-Club.

Since graduation, he has served on the Ashland Board of Education and the St. Agnes Church Council. He has also assisted in coaching St. Agnes athletic teams and been an avid booster of all amateur athletics. Blake's career has been devoted to insurance sales. His associates say that his honesty in service to his clients is his own best advertisement. The combination of consistent performance, unflagging effort, outstanding sportsmanship in college, on the playing field and in the "world of work" personifies the type of individual Northland College wishes to honor in the Athletic Hall of Fame.
