    Sports Information Director

George Schmidt put Northland College in the news during the 1960's. He was a Public Relations director in the classic mold; he "did it all." All of his news stories were tailored for where they were being sent. George was responsible for alumni relations, all public relations, and sports information. Many athletes benefited from his work. Paul Feldhausen, former player for the Boston Patriots and fellow member of Northland's Hall of Fame, gave credit to George for his success in athletics. George made sure Northland and the players got in the news.

George served as Chairman of the District 14 NAIA publicity and awards. He went on to serve in the national NAIA, serving as President of NAIA Sports Information Directors Association and wrote two chapters and edited the NAIA "Sports Info Directors Handbook." He went on to purchase several newspapers after being at Northland College.
