Matthias lettered three years in football and four years in basketball, and served as captain of both sports. He was noted for his speed and agility on the basketball court and his touchdown runs. He was President of his class for two year and participated in a multitude of extra curricula activities and graduated in 1925. His life's work was dedicated to education. Matthias served as a school administrator, teacher. During World War II he was an instructor in the Signal Corps. He has been an elder of his church and scoutmaster. Harold Matthias in the classroom and outside of it taught dignity, honesty, love, and patience, insisting on clear thinking and tolerance. Best of all he taught these virtues by the example of his own act and deeds.
