Robert "Rob" Reader was a two-sport athlete at Northland. He lettered four times in basketball and twice in football. Rob received numerous awards for his contributions to the Northland basketball team during the four years he played. As a sophomore he was recognized as the Most Improved Player and as a junior he was the Team Rebounding Leader and most valuable player. He was the Team Captain as well as Team Rebounding Leader in his senior year. He also received the teams Outstanding Sportsmanship Award as a senior. Rob earned many honors during his basketball career. He made the All Tournament Team in the Stevens Point Classic in 1976-77, was a First Team All Wisconsin Independent Colleges selection in 1977-78, and was a first team member of the NAIA All District 14 Team in 1977-78. Rob ended his career as the ninth leading scorer in Northland history at the conclusion of the 1977-78 year.

Rob also was recognized for his academic record at Northland.

He received the George Barr Scholarship in 1975-76, the Robert Hill Foundation Scholarship in 1976-77, and the Frederick P. Stratton Memorial Scholarship in 1977-78.

Following graduation from Northland with at BA in Psychology, Rob earned an MST degree in Guidance and Counseling form UW-Superior in 1981. He currently is Director of Guidance at Ashland High School. Rob is married to Sue Straw Reader a 1979 Northland graduate and has two children Mary Katherine and Diana Sue.
