Hopkins was a standout football and tennis player at Northland College. He was a member of the undefeated-untied football team of 1931 and lettered four years. In addition to his aggressive tennis style, Hopkins' greatest athletic skill was his golden toe. Many of his kicks would travel 80 yards in the air. Hopkins was a quiet person, a gentleman of the highest type. He was his class President for three years and involved himself in numerous extra curricular activities.

Following his graduation in 1933 he became a skilled photo engraver and pursued his avocation as an artist painter of portraits and landscapes. His career was interrupted by service in World War II and he flew 75 missions as a navigator in the Air Transport Command over both the North and South Atlantic. Hopkins joins his brother, Roy, in the Hall of Fame. If Stan Hopkins were with us, he would modestly say, "I do not belong." However, his classmates and fellow Hall of Famers enthusiastically say he belongs in the Northland Hall of Fame because in life he typified the great example of what we always hope for in a Northland College graduate.
