Gavin Donaldson is recognized for his outstanding achievements and dedication to the sport of soccer- both in his outstanding career at Northland and his distinguished coaching career. Coach Donaldson graduated from Northland College in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography. While at Northland, Gavin was a member of Northland College's club soccer team, the Phi Sigma Epsilon Fraternity, The Voyagers, and served as Vice President of the Northland College Student Association. After graduating, he served as coach of the Northland College's first varsity soccer team, leading them to three NLCAA National Championship appearances.

He went on to receive his Master of Science degree in Kinesiology and Athletic Administration from Indiana University in 1991. He also served as an assistant coach for the Indiana University men's soccer team and helped lead them to an NCAA Final Four appearance in 1989. He has been the men's soccer coach and the NCAA Compliance Officer at West Virginia Wesleyan College for the past seven years. He took his Wesleyan team to the NAIA Final Four in 1992, and was named NAIA National Coach of the Year in 1994 after winning the NAIA National Championship. His team finished the 1997 season ranked 7th in the country in the NCAA Division II.
