Phillips was ordained after graduation and has served in the ministry of the Congregational Christian Church. He retired in 1963 after serving as pastor of the First United Church of Christ in DePere, Wisconsin for 16 years. He still is active with preaching assignments throughout eastern Wisconsin.

Edwin T. Phillips may be described as the "complete scholar." He excelled as a student, an athlete, a writer, a musician, a thespian, and as an individual. He was popular as well as successful, characteristics that have remained with him to this day.

Rev. Phillips graduated in 1914 and is the second oldest living Northland alumnus. During his four years at the college and during the half century since he has become one of the proudest sons of Northland College.
