Bob Borst came to Northland College from Ashland High School, where he was Valedictorian. He was an excellent football and basketball player. As a quarterback, he was described as calling a "dependable, heady game." He was also praised as "a fine pass receiver and a sure tackler as a safety man." He was captain elect of the basketball team and was referred to as "one of the main cogs in Northland's basketball machine." Bob finished his college education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and graduated with a degree in accounting. He served as a Navy Lieutenant in both the Atlantic and Pacific operations during WWII. After the war, he became an account executive with Standard Oil. His classmates and fellow Hall of Famers have described Bob Borst as an excellent athlete, student and gentleman. He has been most successful in all of his endeavors.
