Raymond A. Paulson, a graduate of Northland College class of 1932, is an alumnus of the College, and he participated in both football and basketball for 4 years, was captain of the football team for 2 years and basketball for 3 years, and was quarterback of the college's undefeated football team of 1931.

Ray Paulson was active while in college. He participated in student government, was on the Student Life staff, served on the inter-society council, was class vice president for one year and president for two years, thus contributing to a wide range of campus activities.

He has served with distinction in his chosen profession, education, by coaching and teaching for 41 years. He was recognized by his students and colleagues as teacher of the year in 1972, was elected to the Educators Hall of Fame by the Eastern District - National Education Association, New Mexico in 1975.

He has devoted his life to service to his community by having served as boy scout chairman for 30 years, as County Red Cross chairman for 40 years, as County Chairman of First Aid and Water Safety and holds the National Red Cross highest award for lifesaving, is a deacon of his church, and in 1975 he began a second career as an elected probate judge and later municipal judge of Quay County, New Mexico. At the same time he founded and operated the Quay County Sun Weekly newspaper to serve the people of his community.
