A man with two careers, lawyer and actor, born in Ashland and a 1910 graduate of Ashland High School. After a year at the University of Southern California he returned to Northland College in 1911-1912 and played basketball under Dan Brownell. He is a graduate of U.S.C. and the College of Law with A.B., LL.B., and J.D. degrees. He practiced law and was a prosecutor for the California State Board of Pharmacy. He also taught law at Southwestern University. In 1952 he began a second career of acting with roles in 30 movies. Television entered his life with his portraying the Judge on NBC's "Divorce Court" for 12 years an then with "Court of Conciliation."

He was organizer and charter member of the U.S.C. Trojan Athletic Booster Club which prompted him to organize the "Orange and Blue Club" of Northland in 1972 and a branch in the Milwaukee area. He is a benefactor for awards in football, baseball, track and basketball, has donated personal funds and given unselfishly of time and talent for the betterment of Northland College and its athletic program.
