Margie graduated in 1985 with a degree in Elementary Education. While at Northland, Margie was a 3-year member of the basketball team and a 4-year player on the volleyball team. She was a key member of the 1983 NLCAA National Championship team (Northland's first championship team in volleyball). In that same year she was No. 1 setter in the NLCAA, and was named to the All-Tournament team and the All-American team. She served as co-captain her junior and senior years.

She served as an assistant basketball coach at Ashland High School her senior year and continued to coach basketball after graduation, as both an assistant volleyball coach at Northland College and as the head coach of the varsity high school team, which she led to the State Regional Tournament. In addition, she coached all of the women's public school basketball teams from 6th grade through high school. She has also coached the high school softball team for 2 years and recently concluded her 8th successful year as the coach of the women's volleyball team. This year, Margie has started the Ashland Juniors volleyball teams in order to prepare interested players for the high school team.

Since graduation, Margie has taught at Lake Superior Intermediate School. She is pursuing a Master's Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
