Philip Davies came to Northland College from Shell Lake, Wisconsin. He was an exceptional football player, playing on both offense and defense. The Wedge stated that "players like Phil are usually only found in Big Ten competition and we wish that we had more players like Phil." During his senior year, The Wedge reported "…no man will be missed more by the 1932 football team than Phil Davies." Phil graduated from Northland in 1931 with a major in chemistry and a minor in physical education. During his student days he was an active member of the Philalethean Fraternity, serving as President, was a representative on the inter-society council, and as a representative on the athletic board.

He taught at Three Lakes High School and in 1935 became an educational advisor for the U.S. Office of Education. During the war years he served in the U.S. United States Coast Guard. After the war, he went to work for the U.S. Social Security Administration. From 1956 until his retirement he was the district manager of the Sheboygan United States Social Security Administration Office.

Phil now lives with his wife Mildred in Boynton Beach, Florida. Hall of Famers Ray Paulson, and Roy Hopkins both stated that if they were in the Hall of Fame, Phil Davies belonged there as well.
