Deborah graduated in the Class of 1976 with a major in Biology and minor in Chemistry, and in 1977 received a Secondary Education degree and Coaching minor. She was characterized as a pioneer in Northland College Women's Athletics. She was a 4-year member of the volleyball and basketball teams, including two years before they were varsity sports (and many not have had team uniforms). She was the Best Server in both her junior and senior years (the first two years of varsity teams). She was co-captain of the first two varsity teams her junior and senior years and was named Most Valuable Player during her senior year. She once served a perfect game against Mt. Senario.

After graduation, she served as assistant coach for both the volleyball and basketball teams for the 1977-78 season and briefly served as interim head coach of the basketball team.Since 1979, she has lived with her family in Utah and works as a substitute elementary teacher, as well as a softball scorekeeper for a county recreation program and a member of the advancement committee for a scout troop. She has coached numerous youth sports teams in baseball, softball, soccer, volleyball, and basketball.
