William Arntsen was an outstanding basketball player during his four years at Northland coming from Washburn, Wisconsin. As a sophomore, Bill placed in national statistics with a free throw percentage of 79.9 %. During the 1960-61 basketball season many records were set, including Bill’s scoring record against four colleges at 1,164 points. That year the Lumberjacks finished first in the Badger-Gopher Conference with an 11-1 record in league play and a 17-8 record overall. During that season Bill was given honorable mention on an All-State small college basketball team. There were 21 members chosen by sports editors of 19 Wisconsin small colleges.

Bill went on to coach at Silver Bay and then became an educational administrator at Two Harbors, Minnesota.
