LumberJills host Vikings for Home Opener

Northland continues UMAC action

ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Softball team will host the Bethan Lutheran College this weekend for a three-game series in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play. The LumberJills and Vikings start the series on Thursday at 4 p.m., at Ponzio Stadium.

The Vikings are 10-9 overall and 1-0 in UMAC play. Last week BLC's series with Martin Luther College was postponed but were able to get in one game. Bethany Lutheran cruised to a 16-0 victory over the Knights putting up 12 runs in the first inning. Freshman Sydney Jacobs leads BLC batting .415 and has drawn a team-high 16 walks. Junior Kayla Senne has pitched in 15 of the 19 this season and has started 12 games. Senne had an ERA of 2.69 and a conference-high 95 strikeouts.
 
Last week Northland started conference play with the 2023 UMAC Champions University of Wisconsin-Superior. The Jills dropped both contests in five innings. Janna Bade made her collegiate pitching debut, pitching two innings against UWS.
 
So far in conference play Kennedy Gruhlke leads the team batting .500 with two singles. Gruhlke also drew a walk against the Yellowjackets. Bode and Lenisa Tomasini both had their first extra-base hit of the season going for doubles.
 
Miraya McFall dropped her ERA to 6.03 after pitching six innings and only giving up four earned runs. McFall also leads the team in strikeouts with 28.
