Jacks make 2024 home debut hosting Pointers

Northland returns to the B.A.C.C. in nearly two months

ASHLAND, Wis. – After being on the road for two months the Northland College Men's Hockey team makes its 2024 home debut at the Bay Area Civic Center for a two-game Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series with the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The LumberJacks and Pointers play on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m.

Earlier in the week the Pointers were ranked eighth in the United States College Hockey Online Division III Poll. UWSP is 15-5-1 overall and 9-2 in the WIAC play. Last week UW-Stevens Point split with the University of Wisconsin-Stout. The Blue Devils took game one 3-2 and started game two up 3-0. The Pointers scored three goals in regulation and then found the winning goal in overtime. Junior Fletcher Anderson is leading UWSP with 24 points off of eight goals and 16 assists.
 
In the first matchup between the Pointers and LumberJacks UWSP came away with a 4-3 win. UW-Stevens Point got on the board first in the first period. Logan Gallagher answered with an unassisted goal to bring the game level after 20 minutes of play. Zach Ross scored on a power play goal to give Northland the lead, but two late goals from UWSP had them enter the second intermission up 3-2. From another power play, Northland found the back of the net this time from Jackson Breton. In the final three minutes, the Pointers scored the game-winner.
 
Last week NC was at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire for two games. Viktor Wennberg and Andrew Yocum each started a game in net and kept the Jacks in the game, however, the offense was shut out in both games falling 3-0 and 2-0.
 
Camille Marcoux, Ben Stewart, and Bryson Cecconi had a team-high nine points on the season. Marcoux leads the team in goals with six tied with Breton and Cecconi paces the team in assists with eight. The Jacks average 1.3 goals per game off of 23.5 shots.
 
Wennberg is fourth in Division III with 597 saves in 18 games. Yocum has started four games this season and has made 162 saves and has a save percentage of 87.6 percent. The Jacks' defense has the most blocked shots in the conference at 10.76 per game. Sophomore Trey Taylor is seventh in the WIAC with 24.
