ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Men's Hockey team continues in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play as they host the University of Wisconsin-Superior in a two-game series on Friday and Saturday.

Starting the season, the Yellowjackets are 2-5 with a WIAC record of 1-1. Last week UWS split its conference opener, dropping game one 1-2 to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and then winning 4-1 over the University of Wisconsin-Stout. The point leaders are sophomores Dusty Bergstrom and Chris Ishmael with five points from two goals and three assists. Freshman Kobe Grant started four games in net for the Yellowjackets and had a record of 0-5 with 112 saves.
Last season NC and UWS split the three-game series 2-1 in favor of the Yellowjackets. UW-Superior took game one 2-1, and
Evan Ilkos netted the sole goal for the Jacks. The following game Northland won 3-1 with
Brendan Charlton scoring the game-winner seven minutes into the final period. In the series finale the Yellowjackets shutout the Jacks 3-0.
Last week the Jacks fell in the opening week of WIAC competition, dropping a home game against the No. 6 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire 6-1 then came up just short against No. 14 University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point 3-4. Freshman
Ben Stewart scored Northland's only goal against the Blugolds on the powerplay getting an assist from
Zach Ross. Against the Pointers, the lead changed hands a few times. Ross scored on the powerplay for Northland to go up 2-1 but they were unable to hold on to the lead.
Senior
Bryson Cecconi is the new point leader for the Jacks after recording a goal and an assist against the Pointers last week. Cecconi has eight points so far, with
Camille Marcoux and Stewart behind him with seven. Marcoux leads the team in scoring with five goals. Freshman
Zane Burleigh has 11 blocked shots, second most in the WIAC. Senior
Viktor Wennberg has started seven games this season and has made 263 saves with a save percentage of 90.4. Wennberg's season-high came against UW-Eau Claire where he made 55 saves.
