Ross nets overtime winner in season opener

ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Men's Hockey team won its season opener over Lawrence University 3-2 in overtime Friday night in Ashland Wis. Senior Zach Ross scored the winning goal 50 seconds in the overtime period.
 
The Jacks fell early in the first period but came back in the second scoring two goals. Evan Ilkos scored the first goal of the 2023-24 season for Northland coming at 17:58. Ben Stewart gave NC its first lead of the game 14 minutes later to go up 2-1. The Vikings tied the game up in the third forcing overtime. The Jacks were on the powerplay early in OT and with the first shot of the period, Ross scored the winning goal.
 
The first goal for Northland was assisted by Brandon Holt and Eric Honold. Going with his first goal Ilkos assisted on the second along with Sam Holy. Camille Marcoux had the only assist on the overtime goal.
 
The Jacks wrap up the series tomorrow (Saturday) with a 7 p.m., game at the Bay Area Civic Center.
