Mankato, MN - The Northland College Lumberjills dropped their UMAC opening series to the Bethany Lutheran College Vikings on Saturday afternoon. The Jills are now 0-2 in the UMAC and 1-15 on the year while the Vikings improved to 12-9 on the year and 2-0 in the UMAC.
The Jills nearly took game one from the Vikings as they opened up a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning. With two outs
Allison Kile doubled to right field which gave the Jills a 2-0 lead. The lead was quickly extended to three when Kile came around to score after a base hit from
Kaylee Harnack. The Vikings used two runs in the fourth inning and two in the fifth to take a 4-3 lead. The Jills tied the game in the top of the sixth inning when Kile singled to right field which scored
Ariana Wilson.
The Vikings closed out the first game in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the seventh as they were able to score the winning run with two outs to secure a 5-4 victory.
Sofia Garcia pitched the full game for the Jills and allowed two earned runs to go with six hits while she struck out three.
The Vikings got their offense going in game two as they used eight runs in the third inning to open up a big lead.
McKenna Freerksen had two hits for the Jills and scored their only run in the 9-1 loss.
The Jills are in action next on Tuesday when they travel to Northwestern for a UMAC doubleheader.
