Jills Sweep Ripon- Garcia Throws No Hitter in Game 1

The Northland College Softball team continued the start of their season this evening at the Dundas Dome in Northfield, MN vs. Ripon College. The Jills picked up their first and second wins of the season, sweeping Ripon College by scores of 7-0 and 9-7. Sofia Garcia would throw a no hitter in game 1 for the Jills. 

Game 1 would see the LumberJills explode for 4 runs to take the early 4-0 lead in the first inning as Kaylee Harnack, Jenna Reyes, Sofia Garcia and Elizabeth Peters would come around to score for the Jills. The Jills would tack on three more runs in the 3rd inning as Kayla Preisler would hammer a 2rbi double, scoring Peters and Remi Orr. Preisler would later come around to score as the Jills led 7-0. Sofia Garcia, who got the start on the mound, pitched brilliantly for the LumberJills, continuing to mow down the bats from Ripon College. Ripon would have some runners on in the 4th and 5th innings, but strong defense and tremendous pitching would propel the Jills to a 7-0 win and a no hitter for Sofia Garcia. 

In game 2, Kayla Preisler would get the start on the rubber for the Jills. Like game 1, the Jills would score 4 runs in the first inning to take the early lead. Markia Smith would come around to score for the Jills in the second and the Jills increased their lead to 5-1 over Ripon. Things would get interesting in the 4th inning as Ripon would go on to score three runs to make it a 7-6 game in favor of the Jills. In the 6th inning, Peters would get on with a single and would later score to increase the LumberJill lead by two. After a Ripon run in the bottom of the 6th inning, Lenissa Tomasini would come around for an insurance run for the Jills in the 7th. Garcia would come in to close the door for the Jills and would go on to take game 2, 9-7. 

The Jills are back in action March 7th (Sunday) vs. Ripon College in Rhinelander, WI.
