Jacks Comeback Falls Short

1/18/2020 9:17:00 PM

St. Paul, MN - The Northland College Lumberjacks scored two goals in the third period but ultimately their comeback fell short as they lost to the University of St. Thomas Tommies by a score of 5-4 on Saturday evening.
The Jacks fell behind early in the first period as the Tommies raced out to a 3-0 lead.  Matt Murphy got a goal back for the Jacks before the intermission to make the score 3-1 heading into the second period.
Both teams traded goals in the second period as the Tommies struck first to take a 4-1 lead before Cole Woodliffe fired a shot into the upper corner of the net at the 14:38 mark to bring the Jacks back within two.  The Tommies, however, added to their lead before the end of the period and the Jacks faced a 5-2 deficit at the start of the third.
The Jacks refused to go quietly and set up an exciting finish in the third period.  Woodliffe got his second goal of the game less than seven minutes into the period, and Bryce Freel quickly set up the dramatic finish just over a minute later by finding the back of the net to make the score 5-4.
The Jacks piled on the shots over the last few minutes but they were unable to find the back of the net and the Tommies escaped with a 5-4 victory.  Gennaro Anzevino made 28 stops in net for the Jacks.
