Jacks Early and Late Attempts Can't Hold Off Concordia

ASHLAND, Wis. - Northland College LumberJacks faced off against Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) opponent Concordia University (Wis.) on Friday evening. Despite the early breakout and late recovery from the Jacks, they fell 5-3 as a final result.

Junior forward Colby Spoonemore (Billings, MT./Williston State College-NJCAA) netted the first goal of the game on a power play 11:57 into the first period. Spoonemore recorded his first goal on the season in this NCHA matchup. The forward's more familiar contributions to the Jacks offense come in the form of creating opportunities and providing assists, leading the team with 8 this season.

The Falcons would then respond to this early lead with 5 unanswered goals, all coming in the first and second periods. A change in tactics by first year head coach Seamus Gregory after this string of events allowed the Jacks to regain control of the puck, holding off any scoring opportunities in the third period. A late offensive push with goals by Logan Millican (Bottineau, ND/Williston State College-NJCAA) and Colton Robak (Gilbert Plains, MB, CAN/OCN Blizzard - MJHL) was not enough to finish off the Falcons.

The Jacks host the Falcons in a Saturday matinee and hope to equalize the series in the second leg. The puck will drop at a new time of 4:00 p.m. at the Bay Area Civic Center on February 7th.
