NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The Northland College LumberJacks (1-11-1, 1-7 NCHA) traveled to Northfield this Friday evening to take on the Oles of St. Olaf's (3-9-3, 2-3-1 MIAC). The Jacks were able to find their energy in this game against a tough Oles offense and were able to end in a 3-3 tie.
The Jacks offense started slow to begin the game, but the defense was strong until halfway through the first period when St. Olaf's Steven Sherman got the momentum started with a power play goal in the tenth minute. Throughout the rest of the period, both teams stayed at a stalemate with eachother trading shots on goal but were unable to find success past either goaltender. At just over two minutes into the second period the Oles kept the momentum rolling from the first period with a goal. The rest of the second period consisted of both teams trading shots, but were unable to find the back of the net. The Oles ended the second period on a powerplay due to a LumberJack penalty. Northland found a groove early in the third period as
Darius Cole (assisted by
Colby Spoonemore and
Karson Kuntz) found a way around the St. Olaf goalie during a power play.
Petter Bulling kept the energy in the Jacks favor with a goal during the fourteenth minute which was assisted by
Timothy Perks. Another goal came for the Jacks in the sixteeth minute when
Colby Spoonemore (assisted by
Petter Bulling and
Brandon Fehd) found an opening to lift the Jacks ahead of the Oles 3-2. St. Olaf was able to score one more goal tying up the game and forcing the game to go into overtime. Both defenses held strong all the way through overtime.
Cole, Spoonemore, and Bulling all had one goal a piece. Fehd, Bulling, Kuntz, Spoonemore, and Perks each had an assist.
Dax Deadrick had 41 saves.
