DULUTH, Minn. - Northland College (3-14-4, 3-9-2 NCHA) traveled to Duluth this evening to take on the Saints of St. Scholastica (10-8-3, 7-5-2 NHCA). The LumberJacks showed their true colors tonight as they defeated the Saints 3-2 for the first time in history.

After the way Northland and St. Scholastica played last gave us a hint at how much tougher tonight's game was going to be. Anthony Stempin (assisted by Darius Cole and Michael Berens) was the first to score at 13:19 in the first period. The Saints would convert on a power play a few minutes later to tie the game back up. You could see the determination in the players' eyes as the period ended. The Saints scored their last goal midway through the second period, but it was Darius Cole (assisted by Michael Berens and Ben Owen) who squeezed one past the Saints goalie as the puck bounced off of his chest and gave Cole the opportunity to convert on the play.

With the game tied at two the Jacks got a sudden burst of energy that made them work harder. This paid off as Logan Millican (assisted by Matt Valley) was able to contribute his first Northland goal giving the Jacks the edge heading into the third period. Northland picked up their defense in third by hustling more to take away any one on one shots with Jesse DiLillo. Scholastica pulled their goalie in their last effort to tie the game; however, even with the extra man on the ice Northland was able to hold the Saints goalless in third giving the LumberJacks their first win over the Saints. "The guys should be proud of themselves for defeating the Saints for the first time" said one fan after the game.

Your Northland goals were scored by Millican, Cole, and Stempin. They were assisted by Berens (2), Owen, Cole, and Valley. Jesse DiLillo receives the win having 32 saves. Your LumberJacks will be back in action at home on February 6th and 7th.
