ASHLAND, Wis. - Northand College (2-12-2, 2-7-0 NCHA) played home for the first time in a month. They took on the Lions of Finlandia University (2-13-0, 1-8-0 NCHA).
Tonight the Jacks showed a lot of heart and hardwork as they started the night off with a a goal from
Timothy Perks (assisted by
Colby Spoonemore and
Petter Bulling). After a Northland penalty the men on the ice stepped up their game not allowing a Finlandia goal; this happened a few times in the first period and each time the Jacks woudn't allow a Lion goal. This takes us to the end of the first period with Northland ahead 1-0. The LumberJacks kept the momentum going through a majority of the second period. Lions Andrew Martin (assisted by Chris Hoffman and Brad Passley) found a way to get through the lines tying the game up 1-1.
The game remained at a deadlock through most of the third period.
Darius Cole (assisted by
Anthony Stempin and
Michael Berens) got the back with 11:26 left to play. Northland wasn't slowing up after this goal so Cole (assisted by
Michael Berens) was abe to create a cushion for the Jacks with 3:23 remaining in the third period. The LumberJacks held onto this lead to finish the game with a 3-1 win over the Lions. The LumberJacks will be back in action at home on the 23rd and 24th.
Cole (2) and Perks were the scoreres for the Jacks and assisting them was Berens (2), Stempin,
Colby Spoonemore, and
Petter Bulling.
Jesse DiLillo had 21 saves tonight.
