WINONA, Minn. - Tonight Northand traveled to Winona to take on the Cardinals of St. Mary's. The LumberJacks were down 5-2, but their late third period push wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.
The Jacks struggled to get things going this evening as the Cardinals jumped to a 2-0 lead eary in the first period. However,
Brandon Fehd was abe to get the ball rolling as he would get one by the Cardinal goalie. This created momentum and
Darius Cole (assisted by
Timothy Perks and
Petter Bulling) shot one through tying the game 2-2 to end the first. Coming out of the locker room Northland seemed to lose a little momentum as St. Mary's Chad Cesarz scored early in the period. The defense for the Jacks held strong until the Cardinals scored off a power play. This sent the LumberJacks into the locker room down 4-2. St. Mary's scored one goal in the third period with 8:25 left to play in the game, however Northland remained strong to starting a comeback with a
Chris Belhumeur goal.
Michael Berens (assisted by
Colby Spoonemore and
Timothy Perks) woudl foow up the Belhumeur goal about a minute and a half later putting the game at 5-4 with three minutes to go. The LumberJacks were unabe to tie it up in the remaining time and fell to the Cardinals.
Belhumeur and Fehd's goals were unnassisted. Berens and Cole also share the spotlight with one goal. Spoonemore, Perks, and Bulling each had an assist.
