The Northland College Softball team fell short in its final games in Fort Myers, Fla., losing by two and one run respectively in their last two games.

The LumberJills fell to Edgewood College saturday by a 6-4 score.  Northland took an early 2-1 lead, scoring a run in both of the first two frames. Cassie Baumgarten, (So., Becker, Minn.) and Jayna Loy, (Sr., Ontario, Calif.) both had early doubles.  After Edgewood gained a 3-2 lead, the Jills retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth.  Averi Kanyuh (Fr., Rapid River, Mich.) singled home Sarah Hudson (Sr., Santa Barbara, Calif.) was pinch running for Faye Koosmann (So., Mellen, Wis.) who had ripped a two out double.  Kanyuh then scored on a single by Crystal Diaz (Fr., Burbank, Calif.).  That was all the Jills would get however as Edgewood scored two in the sixth and one in the seventh to pick up the win.

Northland again saw a lead evaporate against Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE).  They took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third when Erin Gilligan (Fr., Oconto Falls, Wis.) opened the inning with a double, moved to third on Brigid Reina's (Jr., Garden City, N.Y.) single and scored on an RBI ground out by Kaitlyn Witthun (So., Cambria, Wis.).  Reina came around to score on a base hit by Loy.  The Raiders answered back with a pair of their own runs in the bottom of the third and then scored an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh to walk off with a 3-2 vistory.

Earlier in the week Northland lost to Olivet 9-1 and Newberry 7-4.  In the Newberry game Loy picked up three hits including a home run and Witthun added a pair of hits.

"In terms of wins and losses it was a frustrating week." said Head Coach Steve Wammer, 'We just couldn't seem to get the clutch hit, we also struggled at times defensively where we would give up the big inning that was tough to come back from.  That said, I think we learned a lot.  We saw some positives, including our pitching which I think will be ready for UMAC play.  We also know we have always been a strong hitting team in the past and believe that with some tweaks that will come around."
