Northland Falls in Overtime

APPLETON, Wis. - Northland College (1-5, 1-5 NCHA) played with heart Saturday afternoon as they went into overtime with Lawrence University (4-2, 4-2 NCHA).

The LumberJacks came out strong against the Vikings as the game would remain scoreless at the end of the first. Northland's Darius Cole (assisted by Michael Berens) was the first to find success with a quick goal to start off the second period; this put the Jacks ahead 1-0. With 4:28 left in the period Matt Montemurro would score for Lawrence tying the game up 1-1. Lawrence would score again on a powerplay giving  them the 2-1 lead over Northland. The Jacks would make a speedy response by Darius Cole (assisted by Michael Berens and Anthony Stempin) tying the game back up.

Berens scored the first goal in the third taking the lead from Lawrence. Midway through, Northland's Anthony Stempin (assisted by Michael Berens and Darius Cole) pushed the lead up 4-2. Lawrence took a timeout with 1:45 left to play. The Vikings scored two goals after the timeout tying the game 4-4 sending the game into overtime. Lawrence scored the only goal and would defeat Northand in a heartbreaking game.

Darius Cole had two goals and an assist. Michael Berens scored a goal and had three assists.. Anthony Stempin also scored a goal and an assist. Tyler Ampe had 28 saves.
