MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Northland College Men's Soccer team was bested 4-0 by North Central University in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play on Tuesday afternoon in Minneapolis, Minn.

The first half was a defensive bout. The LumberJacks held a strong defense and did not allow many shots. On one of the three shots on target in the first, the Rams found the back of the net for the lead. That was the sole goal in the opening 45 minutes.

Chris Gomez had the first shot for Northland. Gomez sent a free kick over the wall and hit the crossbar. A minute late the Jacks were threatening again this time off a corner. Gomez got to the ball again but his shot was saved. For a majority of the first 15 minutes of the second half, Northland continued to press and had control in the Ram's half. North Central had a free kick right outside of the box. The cross found the head of a Ram's player but Rodrigo Chavez made the save to keep the game at 1-0. Chavez was one-on-one with Ulrich Mvogo who scored bar down. NCU scored twice more before the final whistle to win 4-0.

The Jacks tallied seven shots in the contest. Avery Zenger, Deshaun Williams, and Gomez all had two shots with one being on target. In the final minute, Noah Del Vecchio had a shot that sailed high. In net, Chavez made six saves and saw 16 shots come his way.

The LumberJacks return home on Saturday for a 12 p.m., game with the University of Minnesota Morris.

Northland College is an NCAA Division III institution located in Ashland, WI. The LumberJacks and LumberJills sponsor 14 varsity sports and compete in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, Midwest Lacrosse Conference, and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
