Castaneda scores first goal of the season for Jack in loss to Carleton College

Northland loses season opener to Carleton

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The Northland College Men's Soccer team fell in its first game of the season to Carleton College 6-1, Friday afternoon in Northfield, Minn. In the 41st minute senior Diego Castaneda scored the first goal of the season for the Jacks.  

The Knights came out firing on all cylinders testing senior keeper Jamie Colvill right away. Covill stopped the first two shots he saw but a goal from Ben Pennell in the ninth minute gave Carleton the early lead. CC continued to pepper the goal, adding a second goal five minutes later from Jonathan Vonderlage. After going down 3-0 Northland got one back with a goal from Castaneda. , assisted by Kellen Richardson four minutes before half. Going into the break the Jacks were out shot 24-2.

The second half didn't fare too much better for Northland being held to only two shots, while Carleton added three more goals on 15 shots.

Richardson along with assisting the sole NC goal also tallied half of the Jacks' shots with two, one in each half. Thomas Carey also recorded one shot in the loss. Castaneda matched his 2022 goal total in the first game back. Colvill recorded 13 saves, one shy of his career-best of 14, that came against Bethany Lutheran College in the 2021 season. 

The Jacks continue with non-conference action on Monday as they travel to Dubuque, Iowa, to take on Loras College at 8 p.m.
