SALEM, WV. – Announced Monday morning Greg Gilmore, Northland College Men's Soccer Head Coach will be taking the reins at the Division II level at Salem University in Salem, WV.

Greg Gilmore will take over as the Head Men's Soccer Coach for Salem University. The Tigers made an appearance in the 2022 USCAA Division I National Championship.

"I would like to thank Greg for his tenure at Northland and what he has built here," said Athletic Director Dan Schumacher. "I wish him great success in his new role and happy that he gets back closer to home and family."

Gilmore spent five seasons with the LumberJacks. When we took over in the spring of 2019, Northland had never reached the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference playoffs but under Gilmore, the team made it all five seasons.

When Gilmore took over, the LumberJacks were coming off a one-win season. In his first season, he led the team to a UMAC record of 3-4-1 and the Jacks made their first UMAC postseason appearance. In the following seasons, Northland finished with a winning conference record.

"I've loved my time here at Northland and there are a lot of memories here that I will never forget," said Gilmore. "Over the past five years, we've accomplished a lot and raised the standards and expectations of this program, and I hope to see that continue.  There are a lot of emotions and feelings that went into this decision, but for now, the only one I want to bring up is gratitude.  I'm grateful for the opportunity that was given to me to lead this program in 2019, and I'm even more grateful for the energy, effort, and sacrifice so many student-athletes have made over the last few years to turn this soccer program into what it was.  I can't thank everyone enough, and I wish the program nothing but the best moving forward."

During the 2021 season, the Jacks had their best finish under Gilmore at 10-10-1. After starting 1-6 Northland pulled together a five-game winning streak to help reach the playoff for the third consecutive year.

Last season, Northland finished third in the UMAC after a 9-10-2 overall season and 8-4-2 in the conference. The positive season resulted in the most regular season recognized for the Jacks with Jamie Colvill being named All-Region Second Team, two student-athletes being named All-Conference First Team, one All-Conference Second Team, and four All-Conference Honorable Mention.

With Gilmore's departure, Lee Denis will take over as interim head coach as Northland College conducts a national search.

Northland College is an NCAA Division III institution located in Ashland, WI. The LumberJacks and LumberJills sponsor 14 varsity sports and compete in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, Midwest Lacrosse Conference, and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
