Ashland, WI – The Northland College Lumberjacks used four goals in the first half to cruise to a 6-2 win over visiting Crown College on Saturday afternoon. The win improves the Jacks to 3-3 in the UMAC and 4-7 overall, while the Storm drop to 0-9 and 0-5 in the UMAC.
Izaak D. Clarke got the scoring started for the Jacks after
Diego Castaneda beat two Crown defenders before finding Clarke who wasted no time slotting the ball into the far corner. Less than two minutes later Castaneda added to the lead when he collected a loose ball at the top of the box and quickly beat a Storm defender before blasting the ball into the bottom corner.
Clarke was involved again ten minutes later when he took a long ball out of the air and got in behind the Storm defense. Just as he went to take on the keeper Clarke was hauled down in the box. Senior
Lee Dennis stepped up for the penalty and converted from the spot to give the Jacks their third goal on the evening. Clarke closed out the scoring a few minutes later with his second goal of the game to give the Jacks a 4-0 lead at halftime.
Marcos Gadea opened the second half by extending the Jacks lead to five when he riffled a shot from twenty yards away into the upper corner of the net. Castaneda got his second goal of the game in the 63
rd minute to give the Jacks a 6-0 lead.
The storm added two goals late in the 80
th and 89
th minute.
The Jacks are in action next on Monday when they host Finlandia University. Kickoff is set for 6:00pm.
