ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Northland College Baseball team was picked sixth in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll released on Thursday, February 20.
The LumberJacks come into the season with a lot of experience and new faces with 14 seniors and freshmen. Some of Northland's top returns are junior
Tyler Murphy who led the team batting .325 and was named UMAC Honorable Mention,
Peyton Solberg who was tied for second in the conference with three saves and put up good numbers at the plate, and
Kazdion Mount who ended last season with a 2-2 record, 4.45 ERA and pitched a complete game shutout. The Jacks added a few transfers in
Nathan Davison,
Gabe Villa, and
Bradley Stoner.
Head Coach
Cal Fougner enters his second season with the program. In his first season, he led the team to an 8-28 record and finished tied for seventh in the UMAC at 4-17. Fougner started his career at Northland winning his first game against Alfred University 10-4.
"Last year we saw some bright flashes of what we could do, so we're really looking forward to getting out there and competing this spring.," stated Head Coach Fougner. "We return a lot of experience, but we also added 16 student-athletes to our program, so there's a really cool team dynamic right now and guys are pushing things in a great direction."
The LumberJacks start their season on March 1 with two games starting with Wisconsin Lutheran College at 12 p.m., followed by Loras College at 3:30 p.m.
