Northland falls in series final with Lake Forest

ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Women's Hockey team was bested 5-0 by Lake Forest College Saturday afternoon in Ashland, Wis.
 
Sophomore Zoey Soost made her Northland debut in net for the LumberJills. Julia Fussy had the first shot of the game 15 seconds in. After three minutes, Soost saw her first shot of the game and turned it away. Northland had a few good looks but held on to the puck too long before getting the shot off. The Jills had a fight a power play and during the two minutes, Soost made six saves to keep them tied up. Soost continued to make save after save in the first resulting in a 0-0 score after 20 minutes.
 
After only tallying four shots in the opening frame the Jills recorded three in the first three minutes from Kylie Schryer, Kyleigh Moffatt, and Nevaeh Trihey. The Foresters netted their first goal right before the four-minute mark to break the deadlock. Northland had its best offensive period with eight shots on target but was still held out of the net. Lake Forest would add two more before the period was up.
 
In the first two minutes, the Foresters sent six shots toward Soost, but the sophomore goaltender turned them away. Northland had a few chances on the other side with Moffatt and Kennedy Gruhlke testing Angie Lombardi. LFC then netted its fourth of the game. Soost saved seven more shots before Lake Forest scored its final of the game. Zoe Laming entered the game after the fifth and kept the Foresters out for the remainder of the game.
 
Moffatt led Northland tallying five shots, with three coming in the third period. Neveah Trihey was second on the team with three and Fussy, Hannah Chady, Gruhlke, and Schryer totaled two. Chady and Trihey led the Jills with eight and six blocked shots respectively. In her Northland debut, Soost made 47 saves. Laming in her 10 minutes of action to end the game saved all 11 shots she faced.
