LumberJacks finish scoreless against St. Scholastica

ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Men's Hockey team was held scoreless in the first game of 2025 0-8 to the College of St. Scholastica Friday night in Ashland, Wis.

The Saints sent two shots toward Andrew Yocum who turned away both shots to start the game. The Jacks then went down to the other side where Joe Weber and Mac Reed recorded shots on target. Northland found themselves on the penalty kill early in the period. The Jacks held CSS to only one shot as the game remained deadlocked after the penalty. 12 minutes in the Saints broke the ice with their first goal. Northland would only trail St. Scholastica by two shots after the first 20 minutes.

Trey Taylor and Evan Ilkos had early shots for NC, but Brenden Stroble turned them away. Yocum saw more action in the second period, with 17 shots on target. Halfway through the period, CSS doubled its lead with a power-play goal, and not even a minute later, it made it 3-0. The LumberJacks had 10 shots on frame, with Valerii Kneib and Nolan Christy tallying two, but they remained scoreless after two.

The final period got away from the Jacks as they would give the Saints five different power play opportunities and CSS capitalized to end the game up 8-0.

Knieb paced the Jacks with four shots on target with Christy and Ilkos one behind with three. Northland blocked 10 shots with Ethan Rubin and Sam Holy stopping a team-high two. In net, Yocum made 38 saves.
