Moffatt nets goal against No. 2 UW-River Falls

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The Northland College Women's Hockey team fell 8-1 to No. 2 UW-River Falls in the series finale on Saturday evening in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play in River Falls, Wis. Junior Kyleigh Moffatt scored her fifth goal of the season in the loss.
 
The Falcons picked up where they left off from the previous game, scoring two goals within the first 10 minutes. Yvonne Durfee recorded the first shot on target for the LumberJills, just after UW-River Falls' second goal. Right before the 12-minute mark, Kennedy Gruhlke, positioned behind the net, found Moffatt in front, and the junior slotted the puck past the goaltender into the top right corner. Despite being outshot, Northland trailed by only one goal at the end of the first period.
 
The Falcons increased the pace in the second period, firing 26 shots on goal and scoring six more times to secure an 8-1 victory.
 
Moffatt scored her fifth goal of the season, leading Northland with six points. Gruhlke earned her fifth point of the season with the assist. Durfee, Moffatt, and Gruhlke each recorded one shot on target. The defense blocked 14 shots, with Durfee, Julia Fussy, and Rachel Fussy each leading the team with three blocks. In goal, Zoe Laming and Zoey Soost made 24 and 13 saves, respectively.
 
The LumberJills return to the BACC for a two-game series with the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, starting on Friday at 7 p.m.
