ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Men's Hockey team was bested in the series finale against the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire 5-0 Saturday evening in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play in Ashland, Wis.
The LumberJacks started the game on the power play after a delay of game penalty was called on the Blugolds.
Ben Stewart and
Ethan Rubin both had chances for Northland, but after the two-minute advantage, the game remained scoreless. UW-Eau Claire struck first five minutes into the game and added a second goal less than a minute later. Northland had a few more shots, but they trailed by two after the first period.
Three minutes into the second period, the Blugolds extended their lead to three. The Jacks struggled to find their offensive rhythm, managing only two shots on target. UWEC found the back of the net for the fourth time before the period ended.
In the final period, UW-Eau Claire netted their fifth goal before the six-minute mark. Northland had a few late chances but could not beat the Blugolds' goaltender, ultimately falling 5-0.
Northland registered 17 shots on goal, with Rubin,
Zach Hutchinson,
Nik Johnson,
Andronique Stepanian, and
Nolan Christy each totaling two. The defense blocked 17 shots, with
Trey Taylor leading the team with a game-high four. In net,
Andrew Yocum made 36 saves.
The Jacks will have their final home games next week when they host the University of Wisconsin-Stout for a two-game series starting Thursday at 7 p.m.
