No. 2 Falcons pull away from LumberJills in third period

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The Northland College Women's Hockey team was defeated 9-0 by No. 2 University of Wisconsin-River Falls in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday night in River Falls, Wis.
 
Zoe Laming was tested early and often in goal for the LumberJills. The sophomore goaltender made 21 saves in the opening frame, but the Falcons led 2-0 after the first 20 minutes.
 
Maddy Bliss started in goal for the second period for Northland. In her nine minutes of play, she made 15 saves and did not allow a goal. Zoey Soost finished the period in net for NC and made 14 saves, but a shot from the center line took a bad bounce and beat her. Kyleigh Moffatt and Kylie Schryer recorded the only shots on goal for Northland.
 
In the third period, the second-ranked team in DIII found their stride and added a few more goals to secure the win.
 
Moffatt and Schryer were the team's only players to register shots on goal. The defense blocked 22 shots, with Julia Fussy and Schryer stopping a game-high four each. The three Northland goalies combined for 74 saves, with Laming leading the trio with 38.
 
The LumberJills and Falcons are back in action tomorrow (Saturday) to wrap the series with a 2 p.m., puck drop.
