Jacks drop midweek contest of Blue Devils

MENOMONIE, Wis. – The Northland College Men's Soccer team fell 3-1 to the University of Wisconsin-Stout Wednesday night in nonconference play in Menomonie, Wis.

Northland got the first goal of the season 12 minutes in. Noah Del Vecchio sent a threw ball to Avery Zenger and he was one-on-one with the keeper and found the side netting to put Northland up 1-0. In the 21st minute, the Jacks had another good chance, Landon Kusuno had a shot on net but Max Kutz got enough on there to keep it out of the net. 37 minutes in UW-Stout had a threatening-free, but freshman goalkeeper Rodrigo Chavez made the save easily. One minute later UWS leveled the game with a shot from the edge of the box. Entering the half, the game remained tied at one.

The Blue Devils took their first lead of the game two minutes into the second half. Shortly after UW-Stout doubled its lead. The Jacks fought down two for the rest of the half but could not make way with shots coming from Hunter Nelson, Frank Mozqueda, Chris Gomez, and Deshaun Williams in the second but ultimately falling 3-1.

Shots were even across the two sides with each having six shots on target. Northland's shots all came from different athletes. Zenger and Del Vecchio both earned points in the match with Zenger bagging two from his goal and Del Vecchio with one on his assist. In net, Chavez made three saves.

The Jacks are back in action on Sept. 14 at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with a 12 p.m., kickoff.
