LumberJacks downed by Pointers

Northland falls in last nonconference game of the season

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The Northland College Men's Soccer team lost 7-0 to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Saturday afternoon in Stevens Point, Wis.

The Pointers came out fast scoring in the game's first two minutes. Shortly after the goal, Northland put together a promising attack resulting in an Avery Zenger shot that went out of a corner kick. The Jacks could not capitalize off the set piece with Pointers goalie Jacob Havlik grabbing the cross. UWSP found its rhythm and continued to pepper the Northland goal going up 5-0 at the half.

In his first game with the Jacks Keenan Bayer had the team's sole shot in the second half. The Pointers had 21 shots in the second frame scoring on two and Rodrigo Chavez made six saves.

Northland managed to get off two shots in the contest coming from Zenger and Bayer. Chavez was tested heavily in net making 10 saves in the game.

The Jacks have their home opener on Wednesday when they host Crown College to kick off Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play at 7 p.m.

Northland College is an NCAA Division III institution located in Ashland, WI. The LumberJacks and LumberJills sponsor 14 varsity sports and compete in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, Midwest Lacrosse Conference, and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
