ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Baseball team continued its road trip to the University of Minnesota Morris for a three-game Upper Midwest Athletic Conference series in Morris, Minn. The Jacks and the Cougars start the series on Friday with a 4 p.m., game.

The Cougars started the season 7-10 overall and 2-1 in UMAC play. Last week in their conference opener UMM split the series with the University of Northwestern 2-1 after dropping the first game. Sophomore Ashton Pauly is batting a team-high .388. Paul and Ben Meusser both have an OPS over 1 at 1.033 and 1.018 respectively. On the mound, Parker Gilchrist leads the team with a 3.48 ERA. Ryan McGie has a team-leading 20 strikeouts.
Last week the LumberJacks were at Bethany Lutheran College for a UCAM series. The Jacks were unable to come away with a win. Leading Northland over the three games was
Peyton Solberg with four hits, two being doubles.
Matt Simpson went deep for the first time this season for Northland's second of 2024.
Tyler Murphy improved his batting average to .282 after a four-hit weekend.
Hunter Wicklund and Solberg are right behind him at .244 and .243 respectively. Solberg,
Caden Willis,
Nolan Hemmesch, and
Zach Ross pace the team with two extra-base hits, Ross having the sole home run from the group.
Matthew Traeger now leads Northland pitching with a 5.79 ERA. Last week the junior pitched three innings and only allowed one hit to drop his ERA by nearly two points. Senior
Vinny Troccoli is behind Traeger with an ERA of 6.92 and leads the team with 13 strikeouts in 13 innings pitched.
