ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Baseball team's home opener has been moved due to frigid temperatures. The LumberJacks will now play the University of Wisconsin-Superior in Mauston, Wis., to start Upper Midwest Athletic Conference action on Thursday.
 
Northland and UWS will play a doubleheader on Thursday with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. The third game of the series will be made up later on in the season.

The Yellowjackets come into conference play with a record of 5-8 and are currently on a six-game skid. In their most recent game, UWS fell 4-8 to William Paterson University in Davenport, Fla. Last season UW-Superior finished second in the UMAC. Leading the offense is sophomore Trey Sybrant, batting .385. He also leads the team in extra-base hits with five doubles. On the mound, Ben, Welle has a team-leading ERA of 2.16 through 16.2 innings pitched.
 
Northland is coming off a 0-4 weekend in Kenosha, Wis., dropping games to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and Rockford University. In the final game of the weekend, the Jacks started to make a comeback against Rockford but fell 6-7.
 
Senior Hunter Wicklund leads the Jacks with a batting average of .300. Wicklund has nine hits with one double and three RBIs. Matt Simpson has the best on base percentage at .417, drawing a team-high eight walks. Zach Ross has the only home run this season so far going deep against Drew University.
 
Senior Vinny Troccoli leads the team with a 4.09 ERA. Troccoli had three games without giving up an earned run but UWP put up five against him to boost his ERA. He also leads Northland in strikeouts with 12, junior Andrew Birko is behind him with seven.
