ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Men's Hockey team fell 2-0 to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Thursday night in Ashland, Wis.
The Jacks had the opening shot of the game coming from
Brandon Holt in the first minute. Northland suffered a penalty early on and held UWRF to only shot with the man advantage.
Max Collette scored the opening goal nine minutes in.
Just like the opening period, Northland had the first shot, this time coming from
Eric Honold near the two-minute mark. The Falcons doubled their lead at 12:21 with a goal from Noah Roofe. The Jacks had six shots in the second period with
Bryson Cecconi tallying two.
In the final period, NC held UW-River Falls to only nine shots and
Viktor Wennberg kept them out of the net. The Jacks had six more cracks at goal but were unable to get past Dyson Skinner.
The Falcons outshot the LumberJacks 43-to-17 in the period. Northland killed off three power plays and only allowed five shots. Cecconi led the Jacks' attack with four shots in the contest with
Ben Stewart behind him with two. In the circle,
Connor Taylor won eight faceoffs and
Kenny Styles was behind him with seven wins.
In net, Wennberg, made 41 saves, with 18 coming in the first frame. The Jacks had 11 blocked shots with Holt stopping three and
Camille Marcoux blocking two.
The Jacks play their final game of the regular season Saturday when they finish the series with the Falcons at 7 p.m.
