ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Women's Hockey team will begin the postseason at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament as they take on the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Tuesday at 2 p.m., in Stevens Point, Wis.

The WIAC Tournament starts with a one-game series for the First Round. This year is Northland at UW-Stevens Point. The winner of the series will travel to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls for the semifinals. The semifinal is a two-game series that leads to a championship game.
The Pointers finished the regular season at 7-16-2 and had a WIAC record of 3-9-0. UWSP did not play last but its most recent games were against the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Feb. 9 and 10. Both contests were decided by one goal. The Yellowjackets won game one 1-0 then forced overtime to win 3-2 sweeping the Pointers. Junior Courtney Leising finished fifth in the WIAC in goals with 12 to lead the Pointers. She also led the team in assists with seven. In net, freshman Emily Griege started 17 games and finished with a 5-10-2 record. Over the 17 games, she totaled 514 saves and has a save percentage of .915.
Northland has not had luck against the Pointers trailing in the series 0-14-2. The three games this season all went to UWSP at 2-0, 4-1, and 2-1.
Kyleigh Moffatt and
Maddy Bloedel both scoring in the series for NC. This was the same scenario as last year, with the Jills winless against UW-Superior but in the playoffs won 5-3 to advance to the semifinals.
This season the LumberJills finished 5-19-1 overall and 0-11-1 in WIAC play. Northland had two big results this season first was tying the UW-Superior to earn its first conference points since the 2019-20 season. Then they pulled off the upset over Aurora University with a 2-1 win in overtime with
Kate Holtz scoring the game-winner.
In her first season with the Jills, freshman
Audrey Ellerington leads the team with 13 points. Early in the season, Ellerington scored a hat trick against Concordia University, Moorhead in a 5-3 victory. She later won WIAC Player of the Week for the three-goal game. Holtz was the other student-athlete who won WIAC Player of the Week after scoring the overtime goal against Aurora. Behind her is Moffatt with 11 points coming from four goals and seven assists. Rounding out the top three point scorers is Holtz with 10 with a team-high seven goals and three assists.
In net, freshman
Karlee Lehner has started 15 of the team's 25 games. In her first season, she has a record of 4-10-1, 576 saves, and a save percentage of .920. Senior
Corrin Hanson has made nine starts in net, has totaled 384 saves, and has a save percentage of .906. The Northland defense leads the WIAC in blocked shots with 14.84 per game. Freshmen
Daphne Gray and
Jamie Steinmetz are second and third in the conference with 42 and 41 blocks respectively.
