Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Northland shutout against No. 13 UW-Stevens Point

ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Men's Hockey team was defeated in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play 10-0 by No. 13 University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Saturday night in Ashland, Wis.

In the first period, it was pretty even between the teams with the Pointers having a slight edge in shots 12-to-7. Both teams had a chance with a power play in the opening frame but the game remained scoreless after 20 minutes. Andronique Stepanian led the team with three goals and Valerii Kneib was behind him with two.

Both teams had chances to score in the second period, and UW-Stevens Point capitalized on theirs. For the Jacks Evan Ilkos and Tristen Bear both had opportunities one-on-one with the goaltender but couldn't put it away. Logan Gallagher had three shots on frame to pace NC in the second period.

In the final period, the game got away from the Jacks. Nine penalties made it hard for Northland to make a comeback and the Pointers took full advantage scoring six goals on the power play in the final period.

Northland totaled 24 shots with Stepanian pacing the team with seven. Gallagher was second with five and Kneib totaled three. Joe Webber helped control the puck for NC winning his first 10 faceoffs of the game and ending 14 wins out of 17. Nik Johnson and Mac Reed blocked a team-high two shots. In the net, Dakota Meyer made 41 saves.

The Jacks travel to the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Dec. 12 for a 7 p.m., puck drop.
