ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Men's Hockey team fell at home 4-1 to No. 13 University of Wisconsin-River Falls Saturday night in Ashland, Wis., in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action. Freshman
Joe Weber scored his second goal of the season coming in back-to-back games.
The opening period was close between the Jacks and Falcons.
Valerii Kneib had the first shot for NC two minutes into play. Near the end of the first period, the Jacks were on the power play but were unable to land a shot on goal. With one minute remaining the Falcons broke the deadlock with Burke Simpson scoring for UW-River Falls.
In period number two,
Andrew Yocum saw his first shot of the period 25 seconds in. Northland had its second man advantage three minutes in, this time mustering two shots coming from
Evan Ilkos and
Brock Hart. The first time the Falcons were on the power play they doubled their lead and before the period was up they netted one more to have a 3-0 lead.
The Falcons started the third period with another power-play goal. Northland had a stretch of shots in the UWRF zone but another penalty killed their momentum. With seven minutes remaining Weber won a faceoff, then seconds later found the back of the net, giving the LumberJacks their first goal of the game. Both teams had chances nearing the end but the game remained at 4-1 in favor of the Falcons.
Weber scored his second goal in as many games.
Andronique Stepanian earned his second point of the season assisting on the goal. The Jacks totaled 25 shots with Hart leading the way with four.
Ben Stewart,
Nik Johnson, and Weber finished behind him with three. Hart also led the team in blocks tallying three. In the net, Yocum made 39 saves.
The Jacks host Gustavus Adolphus College on Tuesday with a 6 p.m., puck drop.
