SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Northland College Women's Hockey team fell on the road 6-0 to the University of Wisconsin-Superior in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Friday afternoon in Superior, Wis.
 
The Jills defense held the Yellowjackets to only five shots in the first 10 minutes of play. Tate Hutchinson had the first Northland shot deep from the zone. The LumberJills had a few more opportunities in the opening period with Karsen Nicksic tallying two shots and Julia Fussy having one. UW-Superior broke the deal lock with less than two minutes remaining with a goal from Gaby Andreacchi to end the period 1-0.
 
The LumberJills spent most of the second period in their own zone. The Yellowjackets took advantage and added four more goals on 21 shots. Northland had a few shots on target in the second frame with Kiera Fairington recording her first shot of the game in the final minute.  
 
Maddy Bliss started the third period in the net for the Jills. Northland had its best chances of the game late in the period on the power play with shots coming from Kennedy Gruhlke and Hutchinson. In the final three minutes, the Yellowjackets added one more goal to win 6-0.
 
Nicksic led NC offensively, totaling three of the team's nine shots. Hutchinson and Gruhlke tested the goaltender twice and Fairnington and Fussy had one shot on target. The Jills killed off the two Yellowjacket powerplays. Northland blocked 12 shots with Gruhlke, Hutchinson, and Yvonne Durfee pacing the team with two. In net, Zoe Laming made 29 saves across two periods and Bliss stopped 20 shots.
 
The LumberJills are back in action Tuesday when they travel to the College of Saint Benedict for the start of a two-game series at 7 p.m.
