MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Northland College Men's Hockey team was defeated 4-2 on the road to Augsburg University in a nonconference match Friday night in Minneapolis, Minn.
Dyson Germann and
Andronique Stepanian scored their first goals of the 2024-25 season.
Dakota Meyer was tested early seeing four shots in the first two minutes. The Auggies got on the board in the third minute.
Logan Gallagher had the first shot for NC with
Luke VanBaalen following up with the next shot four seconds later. Germann leveled the game at 9:39 with
Hunter Nelson and
Sam Holy assisting on the goal. The Auggies retook the lead with four minutes left in the period.
The second period was a scoreless 20 minutes. Meyer made 12 saves to keep the Jacks only down one. Northland had seven shots in the second frame with
Nik Johnson pacing NC with two.
For most of the third period, Northland continued to trail by one. Augsburg doubled its lead with five minutes remaining. The Jacks answered back one minute later with a goal from Stepanian.
Zach Hutchinson and
Joe Weber assisted on the goal. Northland pulled the goalie to add an extra skater but gave up the empty netter to end the game 4-2.
Northland had six different student-athletes tallying a point, with five of them recording their first point of the season.
Ben Stewart led the team in shots with four. Nelson and Gallagher finished behind him with three each.
Mac Reed totaled a team-high four blocks with
Brock Hart and
Trey Taylor tallying two. Meyer made 39 saves in the contest.
The Jacks continue their road trip tomorrow (Saturday) as they take on the College of Saint Scholastica at 7 p.m.
