LumberJills start fast but fall to the Rams

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Northland College Women's Basketball team came out fast but fell 36-91 to North Central University in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play Tuesday night in Minneapolis, Minn.
 
The LumberJills started fast with Harley Heckendorf scoring her first field goal of the season and on the following possession, Madison Mendoza converted on a two-point jumper. After a made free throw from Mendoza, Kodie Rempp hit from deep to regain a three-point lead for the Jills. Tara Sandoval kept Northland in the lead with a deep two with Ellie Kracht assisting on the basket. The Rams took the lead after a nine-point run. To end the scoring in the first quarter for NC, Rempp made her second three-ball.
 
North Central expanded its lead starting the second quarter with 10 unanswered. Sandoval stopped the run, scoring four in a row off of two driving layups. Sandoval had all of Northland's points in the second quarter with six.
 
Sandoval had another big quarter with eight points in the third. Rempp chipped in a pair off a layup and Heckendorf converted on both of her free throws.
 
In the final quarter, Rempp reached double-figures in scoring from a driving layup. Mendoza had three points in the final quarter and ended the scoring for the LumberJills with a free throw.
 
Sandoval led the team in scoring with 16 points with Rempp behind her with 10. Sandoval put up her second-highest point total on the season.  This is Rempp's second game in a row with double-digit points. Rempp also started the game making her first two three-pointers. Also adding to the score was Mendoza with six and Heckendorf with four.
 
The LumberJills had 25 rebounds. Mendoza paced the team with seven. Behind her was Rempp and Jojo Lowmaster with six and five respectively. Heckendorf had two steals and her first block of the season, to lead NC in both categories.
 
The Jills continue their midweek road trip tomorrow (Wednesday) when they play the University of Northwestern at 5 p.m.
