Northland’s strong second-half results in 2-2 tie with Minnesota-Morris

Tibbetts scored his UMAC-leading 11th goal of the season

MORRIS, Minn. – The Northland College Men's Soccer team records its first tie of the season drawing University of Minnesota, Morris Sunday afternoon in Morris, Minn. The Jacks had a strong second-half showing resulting in two goals including Harrison Tibbetts' 11th of the season.
 
The LumberJacks had a quiet first half, only recording one shot. In his first game back after missing three games Diego Castaneda tested the Minnesota-Morris goalie with a high shot in the 44th minute. The Cougars set up more opportunities in the first half with four shots. Their sole shot on goal went in the top left corner to put the Cougars up 1-0.
 
The second half the Jacks turned on the offense with 10 shots. Julian Swensen leveled the game in the 58th minute with his first goal of the season. Swensen drove up the field from the backline connection on give and goes and once in the box hits the back post tying the game. 15 minutes later Tibbets scores his 11th goal of the season to put Northland on top. On the right side again, Nolan Melek swung the ball into the box, finding Tibbetts' right foot ending in a LumberJacks' goal. With six and a half minutes on the clock, the Cougars had a corner kick that ended in the back of the net. With the final shot of the game, Keagan Cullbertson sent the ball to the bottom left of the goal, which ended up being saved ending the game 2-2.
 
The Jacks tallied 11 shots in the game, 10 in the second half. After coming off the bench Castaneda ended the game with two shots, one being on target. Of the six Northland shots on frame Tibbetts totaled a team-high two. Melek and Cullbertson also sent a shot the keeper's way ended with a save. Swenson had two shots in his 80 minutes with the Jacks' first goal. Jamie Colvill, ended the game with one save.
 
This Wednesday, the Jacks will be back at Ponzio Stadium as they host University of Wisconsin-Superior at 4:30 p.m.
